ScannerBench processes scan text, comparisons, imported files and device notes in your browser. The application has no upload endpoint, accounts, third-party analytics, remote parser or automatic error reporting.

What the browser retains

Captures and settings live in memory. Reloading or closing the page loses the session. Clear session removes the app’s references to captures, expected text, imports, report previews and device details. It does not delete downloaded files, your system clipboard or files you originally imported. Session data is not written to local storage, cookies or IndexedDB.

Capture listeners are attached to the visible capture field, not the whole document. The tool reads paste text only during your paste action in that field; it never polls or reads the clipboard in the background.

Review before sharing

Reports are redacted by default: captured text, key values, expected values, rule arguments, imported identifiers and free-text device notes are omitted. Lengths, counts, timing, completion reasons, comparison outcomes, browser family/version and software versions remain. Even a redacted report can reveal operational characteristics.

Choose the full-report checkbox only if you want all captures, event details, paste text, expectations, rule arguments and device context included. The preview shows the content before download. JSON and printable HTML are generated locally with generic filenames. Nothing is automatically emailed, uploaded or shared.

Network requests and links

Loading the site retrieves its own HTML, JavaScript, CSS and favicon. Hosting providers may record ordinary request metadata such as IP addresses and paths under their hosting policy; scan values are not placed in requests. Core capture and comparison need no further requests once assets have loaded. This is not an installed offline app.

External manual and suite links open only when selected. Suite links carry the fixed attribution utm_source=scannerbench, with no barcode, device or report value. Those destination sites have their own policies.

Reporting an issue

Use the contact route on SmartFACT. Start with a redacted report and a synthetic example where possible. Never post operational values publicly just to obtain help.
